A tragic incident of human-wildlife conflict was reported in Walnoor village near Kushalnagar in Karnataka’s Kodagu district, where a former Gram Panchayat member lost her life after being attacked by a wild elephant. The victim, Jalajakshi (53), a resident of Balegundi Hadi and former member of the Nanjarayapatna Gram Panchayat, was reportedly walking along a local road early in the morning when the elephant suddenly charged at her. She sustained severe injuries in the attack and died at the spot before help could arrive.

Forest department officials reached the scene soon after the incident and began an investigation into the attack. The incident has caused fear and anger among villagers, who expressed concern about increasing elephant movement near human settlements. Local residents have urged authorities to take immediate steps to prevent further wildlife attacks and ensure the safety of people living close to forest areas.
